Visa for Malta

Do you need an Student Visa?

European Union citizens planning to travel to Malta do not need any special documentaiton.

Countries that have been placed in the following list have no need to possess a visa to enter Malta for visits of up to 90 days:

Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Cyprus, Korea, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, USA, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Libya, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Monaco, Norway, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, United Kingdom and Commonwealth, Romania, San Marino, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Uruguay, Vatican.

The other countries which are not included in this list must apply for a visa, provided by the Immigration Police in Malta. The procedure for applying for a visa to travel to Malta requires a time of plus or minus four weeks. Children under 16 need permission from parents or are registered in the passport of the same.

If there is no Maltese embassy in your country/region, Malta is represented either by the Austrian or Italian embassy.

What do you need to apply for a Visa?

All embassies will ask you to provide some documents when applying for a visa. Below is a list of what is generally asked for but please note that this may vary from embassy to embassy:

  • Passport
  • Copy of the main page of the passport
  • 1 colour picture
  • Application form
  • Invitation letter in original (no email, no fax) mentioning personal and passport details of the applicant/s, duration of the stay, duration of the course, cost and whether the fee of the course has been paid or not
  • Confirmation of payment of the course
  • Confirmation of the place where the applicant will stay (hotel, family, friends,...)
  • Flight reservation from your country to Malta
  • Declaration from the school
  • Medical insurance
  • Financial guarantee (minimum 28 Euro per day of stay)
  • Certificate of personal address in your country
  • Family information
  • Visa fee
